I have heard my whole life about the legacy of my ancestors. Heber C Kimball, J. Golden Kimball, Spencer W. Kimball and many other Kimballs who contributed greatly to the culture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have remained ignorant to their sacrifices and hardships. What I have noticed, though, despite that ignorance are the blessings that my family has received.
I have felt a strong connection to Heber C Kimball ever since I read a talk he gave to his immediate family. I was a missionary at the time and I was having one of those missionary dead end moments. Things were not working out. I thought I was the only one in the world that had ever felt that way. After reading Heber's story I realized that I was wrong. I was selfish. I am touched by his trials and his journey.
That. Sounds way cool. I feel like all of our church leaders (like, literally all of them) have some sweet stories, and some even sweeter trials... or I guess they'd be bitter, but you get it. That's not to mention that their lives are usually very well documented. That seems like a really good idea. Obviously you can find lots of really good personal stories if you look in the teachings of the prophets, they all have their own book of doctrine taught by them, so that's cool, but I'm sure you could find comments about his character and stuff from other apostles and leader that were his colleagues. You are going to want to narrow down your topic or claim though. This isn't like biography, so maybe think of the effects that his acts as a honest, corageos, and goal focused man has had on the happiness of his posterity (I don't know if those apply, they are just an example) Gook luck broski.
ReplyDeleteI think a good idea for finding research might be to look into biographies, family accounts, and memoirs. They can shed a lot of light on the legacy that family members have left behind. - Rachel Tietjen
ReplyDeleteIt is so great that you have ancestors that had such a significant impact on so many people. They were so wise and I'm sure there are a lot of great stories from the past. What a wonderful thing to have their influence to look up to. Good luck with your research! You'll probably learn more about yourself along the way as well.
ReplyDeleteWow. I love it when something just speaks to you so personally and you start to look outward instead of inward.I think you have a great work in front of you, it'll be cool to see where this goes!

ReplyDeleteThat's really cool. You are practically famous! I agree that when finding a topic, you should pick something that matters to you, so perhaps this essay you will write can be read to your future posterity about your ancestors-- continuing the Kimball legacy. Wouldn't that be neat? No pressure.
